go beyond the mountain

so long as i remember, i always have my 3 betsfriends stick for me. Prita, Alyani, and Kiki are my truly sunshine. they are the kind of bestfriends that you would want to scream out loud "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?" or "I'D KILL YOU IF YOU EVER GO" something like that. So we've been through pretty much everything. College, Dorm, Hometown, Bali, but not yet with Mountain. Well, since alyani now joined PALAWA (pecinta alam in Unpad) and everyone in instagram is crazy about Indonesia's nature so i came out with the idea (basically i'm always be the one who comes with a plan) to go to Papandayan. It's located in Garut which is pretty near from our city Jatinangor.

After planning this and that, finally 3 months ago Me, Allyani, Prita, Kiki, Rivel, Abe, and Guruh started our journey. We still need the boys though :p We rented the tent only, beause we borrow other stuff such us carrier bag, cooking tools, mountain shoes, raincoat, etc from our friends. We bought food for 2 days and we went there with Angkot. From Cileunyi to Garut Terminal only costs 26.000 rupiah each person. There was an incident in Garut where our angkot driver fought with other drivers and we were stuck for 1 hour in that place and it's already 2 pm (the latest time to hike the mountain is at 5 pm). We were all furious and panic at the same time. Eventually we arrived at 3 pm near the mountain. We hitchhicked a truck towards the foot of the mountain (each person pay 15.000 rupiah). It started to rain and we were hopeless because the guard said there is no place left for camping on the top of the mountain. We decided to still hike the mountain with whatever condition. After half hour, the rain stopped and because it's weekend so many people hiked with us together. The road is bumpy with mountain rocks but what worse is many puddle along the way. And the post-rain condition turns the soil into sludge, We have to be really careful because the road is slippery. But i believe when it's not a rainy season, this mountain would be so easy to be hiked. We arrived near Pondok Saladah after 2 hours, since i wear football shoes my feet were being pain in the ass. Because Pondok Saladah was full of people, we camped near the entrance. It's already 5.30 so we immediately made our tent. I was the one who queue for water, Alyani Guruh Abe built 2 tents, Kiki and Rivel prepared to cook Indomie. We had a good teamwork even when were tired and starving.
At 6 it is totally dark and cold, we ate Indomie with Kornet and it tastes excellent. We made tea and sat together outside our tents. When it's cold enough, we got into the tent (7 people in one small tent for 4 people). We played card and we were so noisy while everybody else were sleeping. I couldnt stop laughing. When it's time to sleep, i snnuggled with Rivel because i couldnt stand the cold. I used sleeping bag and blanket as well. Well, because our tent located on the entrance, so everytime a group of people entering the camp area, we were awaken. I couldnt sleep and this funny thing happen where Kiki always farts and we all almost died of the stink smell and had to open the tent. Me and Rivel decided to have a small talk instead of sleeping, we opened the tent window and looked at the moon. Honestly, I never think moon is beautiful. I always think it's just a white circle in the sky. But this time is different, i leaned my head on Rivel's chest and i can see white circles surrounded the full moon. It's so beautiful i didnt feel the cold anymore. I finally fell asleep, i guessed i was smiling because i'm just plain happy to be surrounded by people i care the most.
We woke up at 5am and got ready to hike to the top of the mountain. We left our stuff at the tent. Along the way, the view was even more beautiful. We saw the road we hiked yesterday from far. We passed by many colorful tents and we were grateful that we didnt tent in the middle of the area because it would be even more noisy. After 1 hour and a half, we arrived in Hutan Mati (it's called death jungle because all the trees have no leaves). It's beautiful to see acculturation between black trees, white soil, and blue sky. We could see other mountains from where we sat. We ate breads and the sun started to rise. We wanted to go to Tegal Alun to see the Edelweiss Garden but it took another 1 hour with harder track than before. Alyani and Abe decided to go back to then, so it's onlt the 5 of us. The situation was quite tense because we were confused whether to continue or not. The track is very uphill and narrow. Guruh and Rivel took care of us, the girls stayed on the middle. I almost got tripped when trying to grab the cliff. And i'm a bit paranoiac because i'm afraid of height and the track is close to the gorge. But we finally got there, it's like a very vast savannah with Edellweis plants all over the place. The sun was really hot but i'm happy to be able to get there. We took thousand of photos i almost feel we had a photoshoot. We ran out of water so we save for everyone a bit. Well, teamwork is really being tested at this kind of situation. It took another 1 hour and a half to get into our tent. On our way back down, we actually play "guess the song" it's so crazy thah we actually sang and another hiker followed us to sing. It's good to meet many people though, they are so nice and always smile. On the tent, i can barely feel my feet. And i have to pee near the trees, it was a really unforgettable experience. Alyani Kiki and Prita helped to cover me from other hikers, but i'm still panicking everytime i heard something. I couldnt imagine to stay there more than 2 days.
After eating indomie and sarden, it started to raining hard. We waited inside the tent but it's leaking so our stuff is soaked too. I'm so stressed. We did everything to hold back the water. I held the upper side of the tent for like half an hour. But after an hour we decided that we couldnt wait until it stopped, we would miss our bus to Jatinangor. So we tidy up our tent under the rain. I didnt have raincoat so Rivel lent it to me and he only wore double jacket. I felt so sorry. I knew how much he want to sacrifice for me. When we walked down the road, it started to stop. I think the rain has just make fun of us. We made funny video along the way and i couldnt stop laughing. Well this trip has been so hilarious.
After 2 hours and a half, we finally arrived at the foot mountain. I met some passerby who want to hike to the top of mountain. I made fun of some people who wear jeans, it must be such a pain in the ass. We sat on the back of the truck for 1 hour and finally arrived at the big road, we paid another 15.ooo rupiah. We ate on the nearest restaurant and change clothes. It's already 5 pm. At 6 pm we rent another angkot to Garut Terminal for 25.000 rupiah each person. We shared the angkot with other strangers so it''s cheaper.
When we arrived, the real shit happens. Because it was long weekend, all the bus is full. And the primajasa that we want to take is no longer operated at that time (7pm). Each of us only have like 50.000 rupiah left. And it's started to raining lightly. I'm exhausted so i let the boy take care everything. We wanted to rent an angkot but it's too far and they said there's a big traffic jam on the way to Jatinagor so everyone said no. And we want to rent a car with its driver but he asked for a very overrated price. It;s like 70.000 each person and he only want to take us to Cileunyi. I'm so angry at that time. Indonesian people and their fucking smart way of using the condition. Their using our bad luck. We bargained for a long time but really i didnt want to spend a penny for that driver. Somehow a bus pass by and we asked their direction. they said we can come along but we have to sit on the floor. Well, it's a better choice because it's already 9 pm. So me, alyani, prita sat on the very back of the bus. we sat on near the back window among the baggage. It's so freaking funny. The boys sat on the alley. Even abe laid down because he's too tired. The four of us talked about this tragedy and laughed. I mean we're all tired, freezing, starving but we made it somehow. It took 3 hours to arrive in Cileunyi because we stuck on the traffic. We paid for only 30.000 per person. Another test happen when we bargain the Ojek to get to our dorm, they put a very high price because it's traffic all over Jatinangor. We had to walk quite far to finally get a good price ojek. Me and Kiki shared one ojek with our stuffs. It's funny we even had to borrow money from Guruh. We arrived at our dorm at 1 AM and eat like crazy before go to sleep. Just DONT ever go anywhere far on LONG WEEKEND HOLIDAY.
Well this trip has taught me more that i expected. I was just expecting a regular trip but here i can see from among my friends. Who is weak, who is strong, who is selfish, who always think of others. You can see much of people's character on this mountain trip. I was angry a few times to Rivel because he left me behind. I mean Abe never left Kiki behind. But then i just realized that i'm being spoiled and the boys should take care of all the girls not just me. I'm not such a weak person but i just dont like being left behind. Well, everyone has different kind of expectation and priority. And when you went with your bestfriends, you can see their nature. Prita turns out to be stronger than Alyani, Guruh the one who sacrifice the most to bring the heaviest bag. Rivel was the one who bargain the angkot when everyone else is too tired. Kiki is my mate when we were both too tired. Abe always walked the last behind the girls. Alyani is the one who gave us the direction. I'm grateful though for this trip, i wouldnt want to have it with any other people. Each person only spent 200.000 for this trip. So economic! See you on another trip!
