like a bird

dzien dobry!

i'm writing from a city named Bielsko-Biala, located in South Poland. now i've been living for 2 weeks in Alicja's house. She is my host mom and her husband Kyrztof and her son Matthew. Also with 1 roommate from Hungary named Alexandra. And they are the best host family you could ever imagine.

so let's start from the beginning. i departed from Jakarta, 6 hours to Doha and then 8 hours to Warsawa and then 1 hour to Katowice. Believe me, it was something beyond tired. The aiesec committee picked us at the airport (but we have to pay for their gas) and we went to bielsko biala. The trip took an hour. It was freaking 6 degrees.
The next day i looked around for the city and did ice skating. Me and Alicja talked about a lot of things, we never run out of topic, especially about culture. we like to compare indonesia with poland in so many aspects. at first i thought this was a small city, but NO they have everything. 3 malls each with H&M, bershka, zara, and many big brands. and alicja showed me the way to my kindergarden in which i'm gonna be intern.

It hadn't snowing yet in Poland so Alicja took me to a ski mountain. And it was my first encounter with snow. I am speechless because it was on my wildest dream to touch snow. after playing snowboarding for a an hour, i completely couldn't feel my toes because of the chill.

one fact about poland is not many people can speak english well.

The next day i went to the kindergarten with walking, it's not so near though. i met the headmaster and she showed me everything. it's rather a big building for only a kindergarten. only rich kids go there. i will work 5 hours a day. these kids are very warm to me. i am like an alien to them, they are curious about me. Sometimes when i walked into the class, some of the children run to me and cling on my legs or i have to carry them around. i gave them videos of indonesian dances and pictures of famous places and foods in our country. i taught them YKS dance and they are very interested! they want me to show the video again and again. i read them english story and the teacher would translate but the children actually already know some words. my only barrier in this job is that i couldnt speak polish. so sometimes the children talked to me and i couldnt answer. it's so hard for me to teach them english and be friends with them when i can't speak their language. on the last day there, i wore my red kebaya and batik skirt. they were all amazed by it. even one of the children said 'you are beautiful'

another fact is polish people call Lunch with Dinner and Dinner with Supper.

on the weekend, i went to Praha with train. It was only me and Nugraha (one of my indonesian fellow). it was supposed to be only 4 hours and a half, but somehow we have to wait 3 hours in Ostrava (a small city in Czech). we arrived at the hostel at 4 am. on breakfast time, we finally met with other indonesian exchange participants from budapest. I'm so glad to finally speak Bahasa. we went together for a free tour. praha is so beautiful. the building is old-fashioned but the city is so sophisticated. they have a tram all around the city. and many people speak english there. i walked around and never get bored of its architecture. even though i got to 1 point when i'm so done with my boots so i bought a flasthoes and wore it (remember it's still winter lol). me and nugra hang out with a backpacker from South Korea. we drunk at a bar and talked a lot of things about korean that we didnt know before.

fact about Czech country, we have to pay for EVERY TOILET.

so now, it's snowing in poland and the temperature is around -6 celcius everyday. i still have a month in here. so wait for further stories!
